Oh I’ve written about both kinds of them but will probably write about them again for Flydays.
There’s a BUNCH of bat flies in the Hippoboscid group, which are just bloodsucking parasites, but there’s an UNRELATED group of flightless bat flies in New Zealand, convergent evolution, who feed only on guano instead of blood and have a social structure in which older males guard over the larvae and even emit a high frequency sound that tells their bat symbiotes not to fly into their nest.
