tatterdaemonalia asked:

as someone who's new to your blog and just saw the ask post about perception range and concepts(?), can you explain what they're referring to, because that sounds really interesting

Oh, it’s the setting of my adventure webcomic, Awful Hospital, as well as some short stories I wrote! Here’s some random artwork from it that doesn’t really explain anything:

The way the setting works began with a bunch of nonsense I typed up years ago for an alternate reality game, and it just ballooned into this whole idea where nothing we think of as existence is real. There’s no time and there’s no space, only ideas, which “come to life” by being thought about by other living ideas, and every single being that exists is living in a different subjective reality all sort of floating in a big matrix of infinite “layers” called the Perception Range. As you drift between layers, you perceive different things as real or not real, and in all different states

Even inanimate objects, sounds, colors, anything that can be imagined is also a living being on one or more of those layers, so your refrigerator could be living an alternate life somewhere in which refrigerators are people, and we didn’t invent refrigerators, they were just always a possibility waiting to be brought to life.

Meanwhile, what we think of as the universe, with all the planets and stars and stuff, is just a mysterious sort of dead zone, like an empty hole in the center of the layers, which cuts most humans off from the real reality.

There’s a lot more to this including the fact that all beings have unseen “branches” connected to alternate forms and a core body that may or may not be a separate entity but it’s all kinda meant to be nonsensical, confusing and wide open to interpretation.
