@vine-st something that they never taught me in hs other than casually explaining that its purpose is to “link two independent clauses” is the use of semicolons. i never bothered asking but it seems like you or maybe some of my english major followers may be able to answer. i could just google this stuff but i’m feeling saucy. when you have two clauses and one is elected to be “different enough” from the previous one to require a semicolon, why not just use a period? what is holding you to not using a period other than “if i used a period it would make the previous sentence seem short” legit question. also, how many commas is “too many commas”
as far as I can tell it literally is to just join two short sentences together; at least that’s how I use it. there goes one just now, he he he. I tend to feel that, like, two or more commas is getting a bit run-on-y. except in things like dialogue where shit like “like” is interjected all the time.
