IIRC, that research has been largely discredited. Left to their own devices (or observed in the wild with hidden cameras, rather than in enclosures), neither mime packs nor feral clowns exhibit a particularly strong hierarchy under normal circumstances - though this may change when resources are low, such as during droughts or periods of low comedic value.
Just like “alpha wolves” and mantid sexual cannibalism, this is atypical behavior caused by the influence of outside observers.

iirc the escort mission ai is better, and there are fewer of them. At the very least they didn’t damper my impression of the game
